New Year’s Eve events & more

New Year’s Eve is on a Saturday evening in 2011, making
an already raucous night even more exciting.

Several events line the docket in the Portland area, as PDX
Pipeline details in its monthly calendar
.

Pretty much anywhere you look, from Northeast Portland’s Beast to downtown
Portland staple
Higgins, a
throng of restaurants offer unique menus for the occasion.

For grander parties, however, PDX Pipeline has you
covered.

The Champagne
Ball
, ‘Portland’s most famous New Year’s Eve Party,’ is the
city’s longest running New Year’s Eve party, in its 21st year. This
year’s event will be held in the newly remodeled Grand Ballroom at the Hilton
Portland and Executive Tower.

If you’re traveling and happen to be in the Rose City for
the night, hit up
Portland New
Year’s Eve Party for a Cure at the Sheraton Portland Airport
for
dinner, dancing prizes, and, of course, champagne. The event even allows for a
late check out time of 2 p.m. on January 1. The event benefits the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation.

In the mood for a little comedy? Head to inner Southeast
Portland’s
Helium
Comedy Club
, where you can enjoy appetizers, a champagne toast and
free tickets to future shows. Oh, and laughs.

If you’re like most people and hoping to avoid driving,
you can sign up for the
BarFly
Bus Tour
, which will take you to 8-10 clubs around Portland for
just $30. You’ll also get appetizers, cover charges and drink specials included
in the price. And, of course, the champagne toast.

Try something new with something old: The Portland Spirit, traversing
Oregon’s waters for years, will host a New Year’s Eve cruise with the Night
Flight Orchestra from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Cost: $100, which includes gratuity,
champagne, light hors d’oeuvres and a boarding photo. This cruise is for those
21 years and older.

If you feel like staying in, you can always watch Dick
Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest
from the
comfort of your own home.
